New Assistant Organist announced
09 Apr 2025

We are delighted to announce that Christopher Too will be joining the Norwich Cathedral team as the new Assistant Organist.
Chris is currently the Organ Scholar at St Paul’s Cathedral and he will be starting his new role at Norwich Cathedral in September 2025.
Chris is a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists and has previously held positions at Gloucester, Salisbury and Westminster Cathedrals.
He will be joining the Norwich team, led by Master of Music Ashley Grote, as the Cathedral enters a new chapter in its musical life, with Organist David Dunnett retiring in summer 2025 after an incredible 29 years at the Cathedral.
As previously announced, Graham Thorpe will also be joining the Norwich Cathedral team in September as the new Assistant Master of Music and Sub-Organist.
Chris said: “I am delighted to join Ashley, Graham, and the whole team at Norwich Cathedral, and greatly look forward to getting to know the newly restored organ, having had the chance to play the old organ as a young budding organist on tour with my school choir! I also can't wait to meet all the choirs, to work with the newly founded Senior Boys' Choir, and to live in The Close as part of the Cathedral community."
Master of Music Ashley Grote said: "I am absolutely thrilled that Chris Too is joining us as Assistant Organist in September. Chris is an immensely talented young organist, having already held scholarships in prestigious places such as St Paul's Cathedral, Westminster Cathedral and Salisbury Cathedral. I know that he will contribute a huge amount to the musical life of the Cathedral here in Norwich, as he embarks on the next stage of his career. We look forward very much to welcoming him, alongside our new Assistant Master of Music Graham Thorpe."
Raised in Bridlington, East Yorkshire, Chris began organ lessons when he was a chorister at Bridlington Priory and, following an education at Ampleforth College, he spent the year as the Organ Scholar at Gloucester Cathedral.
He graduated with a Music degree from the University of Cambridge in 2022, where he held organ scholarships at King’s and Jesus Colleges.
Alongside his growing portfolio as an accompanist, Chris has performed recitals in venues across the UK including York Minster, Selby Abbey, Bridlington Priory, Bath Abbey and Winchester Cathedral. He has performed on a number of BBC Radio 3 broadcasts.
