Christian Meditation Group
Every Tuesday, 1.15pm-1.45pm
Location: St Catherine's Chapel
A Christian meditation group has met at the Cathedral, every Tuesday from 1.15pm to 1.45pm, since 2008 and meditate together in St Catherine's Chapel. The space is held by a group of experienced meditators and led by one of us each week. We continue to offer an open drop-in group for those wishing to seek a deeper silence within a group setting.
Laurence Freeman OSB, Director of the World Community for Christian Meditation says about the practice of meditation:
“Meditation is simple, being simple means being ourselves. It means passing beyond self consciousness, self analysis and self rejection. Meditation is a universal spiritual practice which guides us into this state of prayer, into the prayer of Christ. It brings us to silence, stillness and simplicity by a means that is itself silent, still and simple.”
We follow the World Community for Christian Meditation practice informed by John Main OSB, and the Rule of St. Benedict.
All are welcome to this drop-in group, of any faith or none, to join in this practice, which allows for thoughts and images to be set aside gently through the peace of silent, contemplative prayer – the prayer of the heart, Maranatha; come Lord.
More people are also meditating from home and the group is also supporting people by sending out weekly meditations by email.
