Special service to celebrate our fine city
16 Jun 2025

Our fine city and its long history of welcoming all was celebrated at a special service that took place at Norwich Cathedral.
The new Lord Mayor and Sheriff of Norwich, fellow civic dignitaries, community champions and academics gathered for the occasion, along with city's Snap the Dragon and the Norwich Whifflers who took part in a colourful procession to the Cathedral ahead of the service.
Festal Evensong in celebration of the City of Norwich took place on Sunday 15 June.
In his welcome, the Dean of Norwich, the Very Revd Dr Andrew Braddock, said: “We have come together, as citizens of this fine city, to celebrate our common heritage.
“Ours is a welcoming city, embracing strangers, exiles, and refugees over the centuries and in our own time and enriching our city’s cultural, spiritual and commercial life.”
The service was sung by Norwich Cathedral Choir and a collection was taken for the civic charity for 2025-26, the mental health charity Norfolk and Waveney Mind.
