Cathedral lit up for Love Light Norwich

      15 Feb 2020

Norwich Cathedral was lit up like never before for the first-ever Love Light Norwich festival across the city. The Cathedral was one many different landmarks cast into a rainbow of colour for the night-time spectacle celebrating the themes of love and belonging.

Organised by Norwich Business Improvement District, the festival attracted thousands of people to see the city in a completely new light on Thursday 13 February and Friday 14 February.

The festival had originally been due to run until Saturday 15 February. However, with the forecast of Storm Dennis this weekend, organisers have taken the decision to cancel the final night on Saturday 15 February for public safety reasons.

Throughout the two nights of the festival, visitors who stopped by Norwich Cathedral were treated to a stunning display of colour and light.

Melbourne-based artists Projection Teknik transformed Norwich Cathedral inside and out with the spectacle Love Always Wins meanwhile Illumaphonium’s Halo installation will saw musical towers of glowing haloes light up the Upper Green outside the Cathedral.

People could also add a candle to the Lamps of Love installation in the Cloisters and help raise funds for Norwich Street Aid.

On the Friday night, huge crowds gathered at the Cathedral for the start of The Valentine’s Parade which weaved its way through the city to The Forum and featured LumiDogs, a lantern procession and acclaimed French street performers Picto Facto.

Love Light Norwich was presented by Norwich Business Improvement District and curated by Alex Rinsler, creative producer and artist, and co-creator of Blackpool’s award-winning Lightpool Festival.

Love Light Norwich Festival was supported using public funding by Arts Council England and sponsored by Norwich City Council, Norfolk County Council, The Forum Trust and Aviva.
