Specialist Tour: Julian of Norwich
03 May 2025, 10:15
Location: Norwich Cathedral

Julian of Norwich is rightly known as the ‘mother of English prose’, the first woman we know of to write a book in English. But for many of us today, some aspects of her life can seem strange – her enclosed life as an anchoress, her visions and her mystical writing.
This tour will explore what we know about Julian’s life, and her place in mediaeval society and religious life. It will look at the possible points of contact Julian may have had with the cathedral.
And, we’ll explore whether or not Julian actually had a cat!
This tour will begin in the cathedral and end with an optional walking tour to St Julian’s Church and Julian’s cell.
Please note, our specialist tours always sell out quickly so make sure you book a ticket straight away.
The tour starts at 10.15am on Saturday 3rd May.
