Specialist Tour: Julian of Norwich
06 Aug 2025, 11:15

Julian of Norwich is known as the ‘mother of English prose’, the first woman we know of to write a book in English.
But for many of us today, some aspects of her life can seem strange – her enclosed life as an anchoress, her visions and her mystical writing.
This tour will explore what we know about Julian’s life and her place in medieval society and religious life. It will look at the possible points of contact Julian may have had with the Cathedral. And – we’ll explore whether or not Julian actually had a cat!
At the end of the tour, there is an optional walk from the Cathedral to St Julian’s Church.
Please be aware, our special guided tours always sell out quickly so make sure you book a ticket as soon as you can.
This tour starts at 11.15am on Wednesday 6 August.
Tickets costs just £7 plus a small booking fee.
Please note that tickets for specialist tours are non-refundable.
