Special Guided Tour: Latin inscriptions of Norwich Cathedral
02 Apr 2025, 14:15
Location: Norwich Cathedral

In Norwich Cathedral, as elsewhere, there will be found many memorials, not only in English but also in Latin, which became very fashionable, mainly for clergy, and their families during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
The majority of these are found on floor memorials, known as ledger stones, frequently carved on the black stone often sent from the Low Countries as ballast in return for the exports of wool and cloth sent from Norwich.
This tour will look at some of these, with translation, and the history behind them.
