Remembering Aethelberht of East Anglia - King, Saint and Martyr
24 Sept 2025, 18:30 - 19:30
Location: Library

The Aethelberht Gate commemorates an eighth century East Anglian king, who was reputedly murdered by King Offa on a visit to Herefordshire. Despite this Aethelberht is the patron saint of Hereford Cathedral. How did an East Anglian king become a patron saint of Hereford and what is the truth about his life and death? Clifford Offer explores the evidence and poses the question: Who did kill King Aethelberht?
