St Olaf is the patron saint of Norway – a king who died in battle in 1030, was acclaimed a martyr, and to whom miracles of healing have been attributed. He was a king of Norway, yet the roots of his cult and a significant legacy are to be found in East Anglia. Norwich had two churches dedicated to him, and Norwich Cathedral is twinned with his shrine church, Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim, Norway.
