NCCL: Biblical translation - interpretation, redaction and fabrication
13 Dec 2025, 10:00 - 12:30
Location: Library

The Bible is a mixture of history and wisdom, songs and poetry, letters and apocalyptic vision, adding cultural and contextual challenges to the modern translator’s task. Should modern English translations be technically accurate or paraphrased for our 21st-century culture? Also, how do we address centuries of transcription error, redaction and intentional modification? This module addresses these issues to give us a better understanding of how God’s word still speaks to us with authenticity and power today.
Led by the Revd Phil Charlesworth. Cost: £10 (or £15 if booked with "How the Bible became the Bible", 6 December). To book your place, contact NCCL@cathedral.org.uk
