      17 Jul 2025, 14:00 - 15:00

      Location: Weston Room

      image-50351c7b1d411f46db477b21a864863ca4c8cf41-1449x2321-jpg

Dr Michael Nix (a maritime and textile historian and author of Norwich Textiles: A Global Story 1750-1840) will give an insight into the marketing and distribution of Norwich textiles in Europe, the Americas and China.

The talk will explore the use of pattern books, pattern cards and letter books and the roles of London merchants as commission agents, Great Yarmouth shipping agents, commercial travellers, Norwich shipping insurers and wharfingers.

It will also briefly explore Norwich textiles in European and American collections, including traditional folk costume.

Dr Nix will have his book for sale on the day and will be cash only.

This talk has been organised by the Friends of Norwich Cathedral.

Tickets are £6 for members of The Friends of Norwich Cathedral and £9 for non-members.
