Peregrine falcon chicks start to fledge

The peregrine falcon chicks that hatched on the Cathedral spire at the end of April have now started to fledge. The first of the four chicks fledged at about 7.30am on Sunday, and another of the chicks fledged today.

The Hawk and Owl Trust, which has sent us this picture by Chris Skipper of the first fledgling taking flight, expects the remaining two birds to fledge during the next couple of days.

The Hawk and Owl Trust is giving people a window into the world of the Cathedral's resident peregrine falcons thanks to an online live video stream from the nesting box.

Due to the Coronavirus situation, the trust's usual watchpoint in the Lower Close has been postponed until further notice, but people can still keep up to date with the birds of prey via the special 24/7 nest cam.

The Hawk and Owl Trust volunteers are also doing an online blog to report all of the daily activities from the nest.
