Fun with bugs, beasts and beautiful things!

      11 Apr 2019

All creatures great and small entertained families at Norwich Cathedral’s Easter holiday family fun day. Bugs, Beasts and Beautiful Things! was the theme of Wednesday’s event which saw more than 1,000 people join in the array of activities that included arts and crafts, theatre shows, dance workshops, storytelling and more.

A giant dragon puppet was one of the stars of day meanwhile the snails from Banham Zoo also proved a big hit and youngsters had a great time creating their own butterflies, caterpillars and other colourful creatures.

Janet Marshall, the Cathedral’s head of schools and family learning, said: “The turnout was phenomenal – more than 1,000 people came through the door which was one of our biggest fun days yet.

“It was a day of relaxed fun with something for everybody. I think that was the key to the success of it, people could feel at home in their Cathedral, they could do arts and crafts and make things, they could dance and see theatre shows and just enjoy being at the Cathedral.”

About the fun day’s theme, she said: “The Cathedral is all about life and God’s beautiful creative world, so we picked the theme of bugs, beasts and beautiful things to encourage people to think about creation, to look up and see all the animals and birds in the Cathedral’s roof bosses and to think about God’s beautiful world.”

The Cathedral’s Easter events and services continue this weekend with a concert of Bach’s St John Passion performed by Norwich Cathedral Choir on Saturday at 7.30pm, and a 10am Palm Sunday procession led by a donkey from The Forum to the Cathedral for a 10.30am service.
