      Field of Remembrance memorial

      02 Nov 2020

Those who lost their lives in battle are being remembered in a special Field of Remembrance at Norwich Cathedral. A soldier’s silhouette stands poignantly by the memorial which is located outside the Hostry and was opened with an act of worship in October.

The Dean of Norwich, the Very Revd Jane Hedges, said: “Remembrancetide is a time to honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice in battle and to pay tribute to their incredible courage and fortitude. While this year’s acts of remembrance may be different due to the Coronavirus pandemic, they are no less significant, and we hope this Field of Remembrance will be a fitting memorial to those who gave their lives for the people of today and tomorrow.”

Throughout Remembrancetide, people can make a donation in return for a cross decorated with a poppy that they can dedicate to a lost loved one. Crosses are available from the Cathedral’s Hostry entrance and this will continue to be the case when, from Thursday 5 November, the Cathedral will be open to the public for individual prayer only in line with government guidance.

People who would like a loved one remembered, but who are unable to travel to the Cathedral at this time, are invited to email their name to prayers@cathedral.org.uk

A member of the Cathedral team will write the name on a cross and place it in the field.

More details about how Norwich Cathedral will mark Remembrance Sunday will be made available later this week.
